When coming to the United Kingdom why not visit the countryside of England, the Lake District is one of the most beautiful parts of England and there is plenty to see and do. We shall try to show you just a few of the places to visit, as there is to many of them to put on this page. The Lake District is full of beautiful walks, lots of climbing, and boating, fishing, and even golf. If you are the outdoor type then this really is the place to go. From here you can catch a train to Scotland as the Lake District boarders Scotland.
The Lake District is Beatrix Potter Country, remember Peter Rabbit? will this is where he was born. Here you will find ‘The World of Beatrix Potter’ in Windermere. A great place to visit.
Wordsworth was one of the most influential of England’s romantic poets, and born on April 17, 1770 in Cockermouth, Cumberland, in the Lake District.
Dove Cottage in Grasmere was William Wordsworth’s home from 1799 to 1808. Here Wordsworth wrote much of his poetry, and his sister Dorothy kept her famous journals. Why not take a visit.

Why not take the little train from Kendal to Windermere, a beautiful town where you can do some shopping in the quaint little shops and take a boat ride on the lake
Several events take place in the Lake District throughout the year. For instance: in November annually a esteemed Mountain Film Festival is held in Kendal. It is an international festival with a vast programme of films, lectures and entertainment. See Mountainfest.
In January, the William Wordsworth Book Festival is held in Grasmere for writers, artists and collectors. Also held in Grasmere in January, the Wordsworth Winter School and, in June, the Wordsworth Summer Conference. See Wordsworth Conferences.
in November, there is the Coniston Powerboat Records Week, Coniston powerboat records.
Numerous events are run by organisations like the National Trust, the National Park Authority, the Wildlife Trust or by additional groups and individuals.
The Lake District National Park Authority
The Park Authority arranges both Guided easygoing Walks and the more ambitious Hill Walks, guided by a local expert. They also give Talks and Slide Shows and have Special Interest Events. A walk in the Lake District
The National Trust website can advise you on the large number of events at their places. Go to National Trust and be taken to a page ‘What’s On Around the area. There you will be able to click on ‘find an event near you now’. Then in Step 1 enter Area: North West; County: Cumbria and then the property if you know it. Step 2 allows you to enter a Theme, such as Food and Cookery and a Special Theme, such as Farmer’s Markets. In Step 3 you can enter your dates.
